Born and raised in Samburu, a remote and rugged region of northern Kenya, Tim Leperes grew up surrounded by the harmonious coexistence of wildlife and culture. From an early age, he was captivated by the rhythms of the bush. His grandfather, a master storyteller, would sit under acacia trees and share tales of lions at dusk, wandering elephants, and the sacred bond between people and wildlife. These stories sparked a flame that would guide Tim’s journey and purpose.
Drawn by the call of the wild, Tim began his guiding career in Samburu , Laikipia and the Maasai Mara – three of Kenya’s most ecologically rich and stunning regions. Here, he trained as a walking and safari guide, learning to read tracks, interpret bird calls, and understand animal behavior with both precision and empathy. His field skills were complemented by his ability to connect deeply with people, guests, fellow guides, and local communities alike.
Over the years, Tim has led safaris across the breathtaking landscapes of Africa, through the savannahs of Kenya and Tanzania, the jungles of Rwanda, the deserts of Namibia, the floodplains of Botswana, and the remote wildernesses of Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Madagascar. His deep knowledge of ecosystems, animal behavior, and cultural landscapes is matched only by his ethical, respectful, and quietly confident approach.
Tim’s guiding experiences have taken him far off the beaten path. He has led unforgettable expeditions through Northern Kenya’s untamed wilderness—from the dramatic rock escarpments of the Ndoto Mountains to the volcanic deserts surrounding Lake Turkana, the Jade Sea, often called the cradle of mankind. These journeys sometimes include helicopter excursions to access the most remote and awe-inspiring locations, where ancient landscapes and cultures remain undisturbed by modern life.
Beyond guiding, Tim has worked as an on-screen presenter for WildEarth TV, bringing live safari broadcasts to a global audience with clarity, warmth, and genuine wonder. His storytelling ability—nurtured from childhood—shines through in everything he does, from interpreting the bush to inspiring the next generation of guides.
Tim is also a passionate wildlife photographer. What began with a simple Canon T3 Rebel, a gift from a friend, soon blossomed into a talent for capturing intimate moments in nature. Today, his photography safaris cater to both beginners and professionals, offering exclusive access to extraordinary wildlife moments, with a focus on patience, light, and authentic encounters.
Beyond his fieldwork, Tim is a lifelong student of the natural world. His thirst for knowledge spans the stars above and the dung beetles beneath his feet. He has studied astronomy, geology, entomology, ornithology, and botany with the same curiosity and reverence he brings to every safari. Whether identifying constellations in the clear African night sky or explaining the remarkable life cycle of a dung beetle, Tim believes that every element of the natural world is interconnected and worthy of awe.
Whether tracking lions on foot, flying over the Rift Valley in a helicopter, sharing Samburu or Maasai traditions around a fire, or helping guests find stillness in the presence of elephants, Tim brings an unparalleled presence to every safari. His life’s work is centered on connection to nature, to culture, and to story.
