  • Tim Leperes, owner of Tim Leperes Safaris Ltd based in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya provides outstanding guiding service within and beyond Kenya’s famous safari friendly national parks. During my time with Tim in the last week of September, 2024 he demonstrated enthusiastic professionalism, care for his craft and clients, and a vast knowledge as a naturalist.

  • We were very lucky to have had Tim as our guide, a most thoughtful, knowledgeable and interesting person. From the hot water bottles on our seats in the morning to the gin with hippos at night, Tim made sure we had a fantastic time. In fact we all got on so well we asked if he could come with us to the next camp, we were very pleased that the answer was yes!

  • Our guide, Tim, was a pleasure to be with and we felt very sad to wave goodbye from our plane as we glanced back down to see him sitting waving madly from the bonnet of his car. He is totally in tune with the wild and has a friendly, quiet way with him forming excellent bonds with adults and children alike.

  • Our guide, Tim, was amazing and so well-informed about everything. We saw leopard and lions every day as well as a multitude of other animals. On morning game drives we had a picnic breakfast in the bush which I thought was a particularly nice touch.

  • Tim Leperes, our guide was easily the coolest guide in all of Mara, knowledgeable and deeply in love with the wild and her animals.

  • The game drives with Tim my guide were always full of interest and surprises. He always seemed to know where to find the big cats, elephants and plains game. He was an excellent guide always careful about his clients' safety, knowledgeable about animal behavior, the flora, good bird knowledge and always had interesting stories to tell about his experiences in the bush and anecdotal stories. He always found the right position for a best photographic opportunity. His ability to spot game at great distance or camouflaged in the trees and bushes was amazing. He had binocular eyes! Tim is an amazing birder. Two highlights with Tim - the sighting of the rare Black-Headed Gonolek Bird (thanks Tim) and a night drive when we spent about 40 minutes with an Aardvark (thanks again Tim). Both these sightings were amazing because so rare.

  • Tim had us laughing from the moment we jumped into the Land Rover for our first afternoon/evening game drive. He's professional, personable and reliable. Just as he sensed we were getting a bit impatient waiting, he'd ask for five more minutes because he was sure the animal(s) we were watching was going to do something cool - and he was right! The leopard came down from the tree and crossed right in front of us, the cheetah and her cubs made it across the river, the black-maned male lion appeared with the Rongai pride and the wildebeest and zebra FINALLY crossed the river.

  • Our guide, Tim, was accompanied by an apprentice guide, Agnes, and together they ensured fun, educational, and sightings-filled drives. Given the reserve’s hours, guests can fit in a morning-to-early afternoon drive and a late afternoon-to-early evening drive (i.e., two drives) each day. We enjoyed both, appreciating the crisp temperatures and morning light as well as refreshments during sunsets. Given our lack of preferences, Tim was comprehensive. For example, he located four (elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion) of the Big Five on one long drive. We were very pleased with not only the sightings, but also the expert narration that accompanied them. Tim’s scholarly approach really appealed to our inner nerds, and we would enthusiastically seek him out if we are ever so lucky to revisit.

  • Our expert guide Tim (knowledgeable, experienced and FUN! ohhh how we laughed!) spoiled us by finding "firsts" for us: everything from a cheetah kill, to leopards lazing, to lions mating (over and over again!!!) We really bonded with him and it was emotional saying goodbye 🙁

  • Tim, besides being really nice and smart with an admirable knowledge of the wilderness, was so helpful when we had problems with our cameras. He did his very best to make sure we got the most out of our Safaris.

  • Our guide, Tim, was also amazing. His knowledge of the wildlife, as to likely location and anticipated behavior, was awe-inspiring. At our sightings we were often the only truck there and were able to experience some once in a lifetime interactions. We can't wait to return!

  • Game viewing was amazing mostly because of our guide Tim. This is our third safari and Tim was one of the very best guides ever. He went way above and beyond to find the best game but for me, his photography skills and coaching created a permanent trip success because of these talents. He knew how to find the animals, angle the vehicle just right then coach us (pretty knowledgeable shooters) how to capture the best shot and light on the animals as well as some spectacular weather and scenery photos. When you reluctantly leave Africa all you have are your memories and the photos so I'm very grateful we had Tim as our guide.

  • The game drives were amazing (big cats were everywhere!) and much of our fabulous experiences were down to our great guide Tim. Incredibly knowledgeable, patient, interesting and fun. We all really enjoyed our time with Tim and he was a very important part of our very fond memories!

  • We recently visited the Maasai Mara National Reserve on a photography trip and stayed at the Rekero Camp operated by Asilia Africa. We had a fabulous experience. The Camp is well situated in the midst of an abundance of all the iconic African wildlife at a gorgeous location by the Talek River. The room was clean, the food was delicious and the bed comfortable. We have no complaints whatsoever. The photographic opportunities exceeded our expectations. This was due primarily due to the efforts of Tim, our guide for the trip. Tim is very knowledgeable about the animals and their behavior. He always knew where they could be located and where they were likely to move next. He is a photographer and knows where to position the vehicle to get the best possible images. He is passionate about his chosen profession.

  • Our three days were filled with game drives were we saw a full range of animals and numerous birds and nights listening to hippos, Buffalo and porcupine wondering around our tent.. Tim always knew were to go and highlights were watching a herd of elephants cross the Mara river whilst having breakfast 50 yards away, many lions, watching a cheetah walk right in front of our vehicle and large herds of buffalo. Tim knew all the birds and our drives were slow and relaxing.

  • Our guide, Tim Leperes, is someone we will never forget. So smart, funny, and knowledgeable. We miss him dearly. Thank you Tim for all the photo opportunities you provided! Especially the rhino!! We were overwhelmed with the animal interactions where we just watched and let the action unfold as time passed by.

  • Our overall experience in Kenya from start to finish was exceptional, Tim, our safari director was a big reason why. In addition to always staying a step ahead of us, doing things like organizing snacks for our own always hungry lions on longer travel days, calling ahead to rearrange flight times to maximize our time on the ground, sharing his vast animal knowledge and always making sure we were prepared for the days adventure, his full of life personality made the trip so much more enjoyable for all of us.
